How long do digital media last?
Turn your digital memories into permanent M-Disc archives. M-Disc is made of a "stone-like" material, designed and certified by the US Department of Defense.
M-Discs were also put to the test by the United States Army, which was looking for storage media that stay reliable over time.
Milleniata products were the only ones to come out unscathed from the toughest tests and to show completely intact data.

Safety for your important data
M-DISC was designed to last a very long time. The laser technology for reading and writing is essentially the same as in current DVD, CD and Blu-ray media, but the difference lies in the material the disc is made of.
Under a layer of polycarbonate (identical to that of ordinary recordable optical discs), M-DISCs have a layer made of an inorganic, synthetic material that also contains metals and semi-metals, protected by a further layer of polycarbonate.
The estimate of 1,000 years was made by considering the change in reflectivity of the disc's metallic layer due to normal oxidation in the months right after burning.
In conclusion, the layer holding the data seems able to last well beyond 10,000 years. Since the supporting polycarbonate is not as durable, however, the estimate from the studies of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, of "only" 1,000 years, seems the most reliable.
