The Isola del Garda is the largest island in the lake and lies opposite San Felice del Benaco, on the Brescia shore. In 1221 Saint Francis founded a hermitage there, which later became a convent; between 1890 and 1903 Gaetano de Ferrari and his wife Maria Annenkova had the present villa built in Venetian neo-Gothic style. Since 1924 the island has belonged to the Borghese Cavazza family, who still live there and run it.
The ceremony takes place in the frescoed loggia on the lake, either as a civil ceremony, thanks to an agreement with the Comune di San Felice, or as a symbolic one, for up to 90 seated guests. The reception is held in the marquee among the cedars of Lebanon, for up to 100 people, with aperitifs in the Italian garden, on the Muraglione or at the harbour. Guests arrive by boat; the family helps the couple with the planning and recommends two approved caterers.
