The story

How it went, moment by moment

Getting ready

The morning began with the details: the cufflinks, the watch, the ring cushion. Maria got ready with make-up and hair, surrounded by friends in matching pyjamas, while Antonios sorted out his shirt and cufflinks.

The church ceremony

The ceremony took place in church before the gilded iconostasis, following an Eastern-tradition rite. The crowns on the couple’s heads, the priests’ prayers and the signatures beneath the arch of white flowers.

The steps and the cake

As they came out, their friends formed two lines along the steps, with Maria’s long veil lifted by the wind. Then the cutting of the "Auguri sposi" (congratulations to the newlyweds) cake with the priests, and the first portraits around the church.

Portraits in the park

In the afternoon we moved on to the reception venue: the little bridge over the stream with its fountain, the tall trees, the brick walls of the courtyard. A few cheerful shots with the bridesmaids and friends, then Antonios and Maria alone on the grass.

Music, dancing and fireworks

Their arrival turned into an open-air party, with drums and dancing. In the hall, beneath the wooden ceiling and the lamps, the first dance between fountains of sparks, the cake in the garden and the fireworks, then the bouquet toss and dancing until late into the night.
